MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING (17/09/2007)

 

HELD 17TH September 2007 AT STEPS 5.30pm.

  1. Present:
    • Malcolm Balch, Sue Johnson, John Boucher, Trevor Cooper, Lorene Long, Cameron Gow, Peter Watters, Anne Lindsay, Dee Booth, Ann Barry, Vic Pennisi, Bob Johnson, Michael Boucher.

  2. Apologies:
    • Chris Wren.

  3. Minutes of Previous meeting:
    • Correction to minutes: Ann Barry, not Carol Parkinson, has drawn up pro forma letter for fundraising.
    • Moved John Boucher, seconded Bob Johnson that the minutes of last meeting, as corrected, be adopted as true and correct.

  4. Matters arising:
    • Re archives – Vic has been in touch with Border Post and is waiting to hear from them.
    • Bob Ansett is away and there has been no further contact with him.
    • Bob Johnson has been working on marginal seats.
    • Sec. Sue advised receiving phone call from Office of Fair Trading advising that we may not get exemption from use of “Inc” in our name. Meeting decided that would not be a problem, indeed may lend weight to our efforts.

  5. Financial Report:
    • $9949 in bank.

  6. Reports:
    • Fundraising:
      • Dinner at Ballandean Hall Thursday 28th September.
      • Ann Barry to check prices of dinner to possibly be held at Summit Bowls Club Friday 5th October.
      • Moved John Boucher “That we authorize Peter Watters to organize SOSAG meeting and dinner at Ballandean Hall on 27/9.
      • Seconded Bob Johnson. Carried.
      • Bungawarra Winery (Geoff Hardin) is making a donation.

    • Media and Advertising.
      • Full page ad this week in Border Post and Free Times.
      • Warwick Daily News will not print our press releases.
      • Press release sent to Des Houghton at Courier Mail.
      • Keep letters to editors coming.
      • Good feedback from ads in local paper.
      • It was agreed that we should push Warwick more to have plebiscite.
      • Cameron Gow and Trevor Cooper to investigate with LGAQ the possibility of getting signs back to put around the town.
      • Quotes to be obtained on coreflute signs.
      • Moved Anne Lindsay “That Malcolm be authorized to spend up to $1000 on signs”. Seconded Ann Barry. Carried.

    • Networking with other shires:
      • Malcolm and Bob reported on visit to Taroom.

      • Vic Pennisi said he had been in touch with Mike Charlton in Pine Rivers and they are interested in working with us. Also contacts in Highfields.
      • There is major anger in Redcliffe and Pine Rivers. It was felt that a rally in Redcliffe on 7th October would be a good way to go, but Trevor and Vic must talk with Bob Ansett first.
      • Moved Anne Lindsay “That Malcolm send Letters to Editors to specific news papers in marginal seats to let people know what SOSAG is doing.” Seconded Trevor. Carried.

  7. Correspondence:
    • Thank you letter has been sent to Dale Crisp for use of bus.
    • Trevor has written to Warren Pitt, Anna Bligh and Kevin Rudd inviting them to come to Stanthorpe to meet with us or to receive a small delegation.

  8. Other Business:
    • It was decided to hold another public meeting in the near future to keep the public informed on what we are doing. It was suggested that we could hold them monthly.
    • Bob to e-mail Anne with names of action groups.


Next meeting 24th September, same time same place.
