MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING HELD 24TH OCTOBER 2007 AT STEPS BUILDING 7 PM 1. Present: Malcolm Balch, John Boucher, Michael Boucher, Ann Barry, Lorene Long, Cameron Gow, Chris Wren, Peter Watters, Dee Booth, Trevor Cooper, Sue Johnson
2. Apologies: Anne Lindsay, Tim Carnell, Bob Johnson
3. Minutes: Moved Trevor Cooper, “That the minutes of previous meeting as circulated be accepted as a true and accurate record of the meeting. Seconded Michael Boucher. Carried.
4. Matters arising:
4.1 Malcolm led a group to Toowoomba Channel 7. Words for voice-over have been sent, for advertisement. Coverage north to Kingaroy. Could we ask action groups in the area for financial assistance?
4.2 Biosphere Reserve Status – Noosa is attempting to use federal powers to extract them from the amalgamation process to ensure the status is preserved into the future. Our application is progressing.
4.3 Letter received from Council requesting removal of signs from road reserves round area. Copy of letter to Border Post. Trevor to talk with Acting CEO Tony Minuti about the signs.
5. Financial Report: Current balance is $11 184.48 Unpresented cheques $3570.56 Available funds $7723.92.
6. Correspondence:Inward 6.1 Letter from Council requesting removal of signs from road reserve. Correspondence: Outward Letter to Merv Muller and Sharon thanking them for their donation of 200 wooden stakes for signs. Letter of sponsorship to be sent to Wilmots House Removals.
7. Networking:
Clifton is having a meeting on 8th November, and another on 16th November at which Howard Hobbs will be in attendance.
There has been a very positive response to the advert for Independent candidates to stand in federal election. Bob Oakes of Nebo is almost certain to stand.
8. Other Business: Public Rally. Moved Cameron Gow “That we do our own catering as a fund raiser”. Seconded Lorene Long. Carried. Lorene said we must give people information and the Strategic Alliance should be put to them as a viable alternative to amalgamation. · To be held 18th November as Bob Ansett is available then. · Bruce Scott is available then too. · Sue to email Billy Moore AGAIN (no response from him so far). · 12.30pm start with sausage sizzle as fund raiser. Peter to organize food, Rotary van with bbq and helpers. · John to book band shelter, also Civic Centre in the event of inclement weather, and local band for live music. · Cameron to apply for liquor licence. · We need media coverage – papers and TV. · Malcolm to contact several mayors to invite them to attend. · Dee suggested that we find a young person to speak. Peter suggested Des Day’s daughter Angela. Trevor suggested Gr 8 student who has presented a project on the subject of council amalgamations. · Invite Mayor of Warwick. · Jack Drake bush poet to come? · Dee to contact all councils by post. · Flyer to be mailed out advertising Public Rally. · Adverts in papers. Next Meeting: 31st October at STEPS building at 7pm. Meeting closed at 9.13pm.
