MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING (15/10/2007)

 

HELD 15TH OCTOBER AT 5.30pm AT ANGLICAN HALL

1.  Present:      Malcolm Balch, Trevor Cooper, Anne Lindsay, John Boucher, Ann Barry, Michael Boucher, Cameron Gow, Sue Johnson

2.  Apologies:  Bob Johnson, Chris Wren, Tim Carnell, Mark McNichol, Peter Watters.

3.  Minutes:    Moved Anne Lindsay that minutes as circulated be received as a true and accurate record of the meeting.

                        Seconded John Boucher.                                  Carried.

4.  Matters arising:

                        4.4 Meeting with Channel 7 in Toowoomba to go ahead. Emphasis to be on the fact that State Labor is pro-amalgamation and Federal Labor is anti.

                        Paper ads to continue.

                        Moved John Boucher  “That the week before the election on 24th November we have a concentrated Anti Labor TV campaign highlighting  the disunity between State and Federal Labor.

                        Seconded Anne Lindsay.                                  Carried.

                        4.3. Biosphere Reserve Status of Stanthorpe is a ploy and not a winning argument. Continuing.

                        5.1. Public meeting to go ahead, date to be decided when speakers are contacted, and as close as possible to election (11th or 18th Nov?).

Ann Barry contacting Shane Webke as possible speaker.

Cameron to contact Bruce Scott and Lawrence Springborg to speak.

Trevor to contact ALP candidate (Shane Guley).

4.5.  Main Roads has requested that signs along the highway be taken down.

5.  Financial Report:  None

6.  Accounts for Payment:

                        Public Liability Insurance  $1182.50

                        Free Times  $600

7.  Other Business:

7.1.  People are expecting that we will fold, now that the plebiscite is to be held after the fed. Election. We must keep going. Keep writing letters to the papers.

7.2.  Lorene to place ads for independent candidates in papers of marginal seats.

7.3.  Vic reported on the last meeting of the LTC.

3 union reps were part of the meeting with 5 others in the gallery. They were conferencing with each other during the meeting.

It was decided that Vic should document the meeting and we will decide how to use the information.

Anne suggested that a meeting with Georgia Donovan (BP) be arranged to try to make her understand what is going on re LTC and other matters pertaining to the forced amalgamations.

Moved Anne Lindsay “That Malcolm invite Georgia Donovan to a meeting to discuss the LTC developments this week”.

Seconded Ann Barry.                                                   Carried.
