MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD 1ST October 2007 5.30pm STEPS STANTHORPE

- Matters arising from minutes:
- [8b] The Chamber of Commerce lunch in Toowoomba on Monday was mostly about council amalgamations but the media did not mention this and Premier Bligh sidestepped the questions. Our submission was given to the Premier.
Moved John Boucher “That Trevor write a press release with information about the Toowoomba lunch with the Premier, to be sent to Border Post, Warwick Daily News, T’wmba Chronicle, Qld Country Life, Courier Mail and include input from Chairman of the Chamber”.
Seconded Bob Johnson.

- [4e] Dinner for Thursday 4th is organized. RSVP by Wednesday. Commencing 6.45pm. Complimentary meal.
Speakers to talk on local matters. To be advertised.
Anne to invite Georgia from Border Post, Free Times and Warwick Daily News to attend.
We should contact Billy Moore to see if he may be available for the dinner at Ballandean.
Michael Boucher to contact Claire Bonner to get contact for Wayne Bennett to see if he may be available for a future function eg Summit dinner.

Anne commented that we have been working hard to make contact with other people and groups to work together with, but they remain simply contacts and we haven’t been able to achieve very much yet. Therefore maybe we should be concentrating on Stanthorpe’s “iconic” status, similar to what Noosa and Port Douglas are doing.
Bob pointed out emails only went out on Thursday night seeking ideas for preplebiscite strategies, and we already have a few responses. Therefore why not persevere but at the same time pursue the iconic area issue.
Pres. Malcolm said it was early days yet and we should wait for responses, and should follow up on Anne’s idea.

- Lorene suggested that, because of the bias of the print media, that we should contact TV current affairs programmes for space.
- Bob suggested that Peter talk to his Kangaroo Pt Action Group contact get ideas on lobbying the press for more coverage.
- Moved Malcolm “That once the date of the plebiscite is announced we launch a TV ad campaign along the lines of Malcolm’s one that Malcolm had done previously on his business”.

- a. Trevor has contacted coalition members and candidates in marginal seat to gauge their reactions re standing independent candidates in marginal seats.
- b. Speakers for Ballandean dinner to e-mail Anne their topic of talk for inclusion in Thursday’s ad. eg.
